Ryan McVinney with Boat Trader hops on a Tracker Super Guide V-16 SC (side console) aluminum fishing boat to test her out on the water, at Bass Pro Shops in Foxborough, MA. With an all-welded hull, unitized by a full-length stringer system and a box-beam transom this deep-v fishing boat is sturdy, durable and lightweight – making her ideal for fishing in skinny water in lakes, rivers, marshes and inland waterways.
One of the best features of this vessel is that she comes standard with two high-quality, marine-grade folding fishing chairs that can each be moved to any of five, pre-set pedestal base locations throughout the deck. This allows anglers to easily and quickly shift layouts depending upon your fishing needs at the moment. Versatility is key on a small fishing boat like this so this will go a long way for many boat owners seeking that kind of flexibility.
The “SC” in the name stands for side console, and it has a great control station for a boat of this size and price. With oversized, illuminated white gauges including a tachometer, speedometer and fuel gauge along with a Lowrance “HOOK2” 4x swivel color Fish Finder with Bullet transducer and mounting bracket – it’s easy to see what’s happening both on and around the boat.
Other fishable features include a big casting deck in the bow, along with a nice aft casting platform and in-deck storage boxes that provide great versatility for angling – or just stowing provisions for the day. The boat’s design has a deep deadrise and reversed chines provide a smoother, drier ride along with better overall performance on the water.
Another huge selling point for this aluminum boat is that it comes with a custom-matched, galvanized “GALVASHIELD Impact” trailer included in the package. In fact, it really is hard to find a better boat of this size, type and weight, with all these features, that includes a trailer and motor – especially for this price point!
Tracker offers this aluminum boat with three efficient and reliable Mercury outboard power options:
- 25-HP Mercury that provides a top speed of 24 MPH ($13.9K)
- 40-HP Mercury that provides a top speed of 29 MPH ($15.2K)
- 50-HP Mercury that provides a top speed of 32 MPH ($15.9K).
The boat we tested came rigged from Bass Pro with the 50-HP four stroke outboard option, and we had her up to 30-MPH no problem out on the flats. She hopped on plane quickly and efficiently and we barely burned 2 gallons of gas in 2 hours on the water sea trailing, exploring and testing her out.
Overall this is a great, easy to handle aluminum boat ideal for family fishing days and exploring the nooks and crannies of sandbars, marshes and lakes. She would make an excellent starter boat for new boaters looking to get into the sport of angling and learn about fishing – or for just tooling around on the water!
