The newest member of Boston Whaler’s exciting Realm family, the versatile 380 Realm family cruiser combines incredible capability and performance with outstanding comfort. Overall she is a crossover-style, family-friendly boat with great creature comforts like a bowrider or cabin cruise, that retains a certain level of fishability that a center console would offer as well. The iconic builder has really tried to think of everything in this express cruiser series, targeting buyers who want a boat they can overnight in as well as day cruise, plus offer a comfortable sleeping option for weekend trips.
Aft Deck, Transom And Propulsion
The model we reviewed was equipped with quad Mercury 400s, which gives her a total of 1,600 horsepower and achieves a top speed of around 60 MPH. Comfortable cruising speeds are in the low to mid 30s, which is not half bad for a family-oriented cruiser!
Her large aft deck becomes more social when you pull down the aft bench seating and the mezzanine seating provides two distinct social areas, plus great room for watersports if observers sit up on the aft-facing mezzanine. A transom door provides access to swim platform with its own integrated ladder to the water. There is a dive door to port (with a ladder) and a retractable Sure Shade awning that can give you some relief from the rays when you’re out on a hot summer day. The mezzanine seat can be aft facing or forward facing too.
As always, Whaler has employed a clever use of space on this vessel, with a large hatch to access your bilge and batteries and room down below for a Sea Keeper and onboard generator.
There is an insulated, refrigerated hatch below the mezzanine seating that also opens as a hatch for easy access. Teak accents throughout are a nice touch and the summer kitchen prep area comes complete with a grill, corian countertop, sink, refrigerator and cup holders and is great for entertaining and fishing.
At The Helm
The helm area is the centerpiece of her cockpit which is an air-conditioned and heated, fully-enclosable area (via a weather curtain in the rear) with a huge windshield and side panels made from tempered glass with opening skylights above. Both the captains seat and the passenger seats rotate to face aft when desired and there are fold-down teak foot rests. The main controls sit seamlessly integrated at a very comfortable helm station and include 3 Raymarine flat screens along with Mercury Skyhook joystick controls, trim tabs and an easy access battery panel. The premium audio system can of course be controlled from this station as well and there is a convenient glovebox for storage.
Interior Cabin Below
The cabin below can sleep 1-2 people comfortably and more if you want to get really cozy. There is a compact, but fully-equipped galley with a sink, microwave and stove so that you can cook onboard, along with a stand-up wet head.
Back up above, a unique mid-cockpit-to-bow door operates hydraulically, and can be kept open for airflow or be closed in adverse conditions for protection. The bow has a large sun pad with an optional table and fill in cushions. There are well-placed charging ports, cupholders and arm rests plus another insulated box for refreshments up front.
