Godfrey Pontoon Boats has introduced the versatile Mighty G Series which is designed for boaters who like lots of choices. With customized fishing and cruising versions and two kinds of propulsion from which to choose, this entry level series should make the shortlist of anyone who wants a boating platform that can go angling, towing and entertaining nearly simultaneously.
Vessel Overview
Seven passengers can gather comfortably on the Mighty G’s deck that is 15’ 7” LOA and 7’ 6” on the beam. The boat only weighs 1,250 pounds (dry) or around 2,000 pounds (loaded) so it’s easy to tow with just about any vehicle. It also comes standard with Godfrey’s “Nightshade” boat cover that can be used up to 70 mph when trailering.

The Mighty G Cruise version offers plenty of room for passengers to lounge comfortably and features convenient Mighty G bow seats, adjustable backrests on the side lounges and owners can add extra pads to create a sunbed if they choose. The Mighty G Fish version has more room forward for casting as well as a standard aft rod storage compartment that can hold tackle boxes, lines and more.

Performance
The Mighty G was designed for either gas or electric propulsion with a Yamaha gasoline outboard or one of Torqeedo’s electric motors and battery packs. The gas option has a six-gallon fuel tank and is rated for 50-hp which is enough for most tow sports or getting a child or small adult up on a slalom waterski. Depending on load and conditions, at wide-open-throttle (WOT), the Mighty G has reached 19-20 mph. At 2500 rpm and a 5.5 mph cruise, the engine burns 1.1 gph so you can expect a 27-mile range with a small reserve.
The electric propulsion choice offers three options – the Torqeedo Cruise 3.0, Cruise 6.0 or Cruise 12.0 electric outboard, the largest of which generates 12kW of continuous power similar to a standard 25-hp gas engine. The Cruise 3.0 comes with a 24V battery system, the Cruise 6.0 with a single 48V battery, and the Cruise 12.0 with dual 48V batteries. Because it can be hard to get electrical down to a private dock, all systems were designed to charge fully overnight with a normal 120V plug.
The performance of the three systems varies less than you may think in terms of speed and range. The 3.0 can cruise at 5 mph for 1.8 hours or 8.7 miles. The 6.0 can do 5 mph for 2.5 hours or 12.4 miles. The 12.0 will cruise at 6 mph for 2.5 hours and 14.8 miles or at WOT at 8.4 knots for .8 hours and 7 miles.
Onboard Controls And Electronics
The Cruise systems have integrated GPS with a display that shows speed, power, state-of-charge, and range. The electric system is a great choice for anglers or cruisers who would rather skip the noise and fumes of gas engines or who boat on lakes and rivers which don’t allow combustion engines.
To maximize efficiency regardless of the propulsion system, the Mighty G has full-sized, 23-inch tubes to enhance floatation and minimize drag. Nevertheless, the design still has a low center of gravity for good stability.
Godfrey uses robotic welding for the nose cones, end caps and saddles. This process increases production efficiency as well as the quality and consistency of the welds. The support channels were shortened to add stiffness and optional lifting strakes are available. Expect tight turns and a smooth ride in choppy conditions.
Special Features
The angling model offers bow fishing pedestal chairs, a trolling motor kit, a stern tackle station module and rod storage. On the cruise model, you can opt to keep the aft area open to store coolers and extra gear. A manual canopy protects riders from the sun and a Clarion sound system with two speakers and Bluetooth connectivity provides the tunes. For entertaining, 360-degree RGB under-deck lighting is an option that creates an intriguing ambience.
Other options include a Bimini and a smartphone holder at the helm station. Every Mighty G comes with a telescoping EZ Climb ladder that makes getting out of the water after swimming or tubing a breeze.

With demand like that and the option of electric or gas propulsion, the dual-personality Mighty G is likely to find lots of interest from both cruisers and anglers. Best of all, the pricing for the model starts at just a tick over $20,000 for the gas version and runs up to around $40,000 for the Cruise 12.0 electric edition.
