Owner Comments

Owner Comments after delivery sail from Ft. Lauderdale to NY. July 3 2019:

Lucy 2 is a solid boat.  She is fully equipped for ocean passage making and cruising.  During our ownership (which has been from new) she has sailed from NY to the BVIS, St Maarten and Antigua.  From there she went to the Chesapeake, then down to Florida and is now in NEW York.  I personally made all these passages and have always felt very safe on the boat.

In the last year we have replaced several major items.  The starboard engine suffered a failure of the exhaust pipe which allowed sea water into the engine.  At the time we were advised these engines were no longer available from Yanmar so the engine was removed from the boat and totally rebuilt by a Yanmar dealer with new pistons and refinished cylinder liners.  All the auxiliaries were replaced, and the engine was essentially new.  The port engine suffered a loss of lube oil which went unnoticed resulting in the engine seizing.  This time we discovered that a new engine was available after all so the seized engine was completely replaced.

The original generator suffered a failure of the electrical end for the second time, so the decision was taken to remove it and replace it with a Northern Lights 6kW model.  In April this year, the inverter/charger gave up working so again a new one was installed (Magnum 3000W).  These two items are working faultlessly.  The batteries were all replaced in 2018.  750Ah for the house battery with separate start batteries for each engine and the generator.  There are two 30 A shore supplies.  At present all three AC units are fed from one shore supply so cannot all be run at the same time.  If I was keeping the boat I would look at either changing to one 50A shore supply or re-arranging the 120V panel so that one of the AC units is fed from the other supply.

The entire deckhouse, superstructure and fore-decks were repainted with non-skid in 2018.

A great feature of the boat is the large fridge and freezer capacity.  There are four big pull out drawer units, two fridges and two freezers.  The galley is really well laid out and great for cooking in at sea or in harbor.  In each hull, layout has a separate head and shower compartment each of which are large for this size of boat.  This was a deliberate choice rather than a separate head/shower for each cabin.

The instrument suite is comprehensive.  At the center is a Furuno TZT14 chartplotter which is connected to a Furuno digital radar and AIS box.  The one thing I would recommend adding is a Sirius weather receiver to allowed real time weather updates.  There is a Raymarine EV400 autopilot with a wireless remote control.  You can set your iPad as a repeater from the chartplotter so that you can monitor progress while inside the saloon in bad weather.  The autopilot remote allows you to control the boat from inside too.  Another upgrade would be to fit another set of digital engine controls at the chart desk.  This is relatively easy to do as the controls at the helm "fly-by-wire" rather than normal cable connections.  This would then allow full control of the boat from inside.

The boat is equipped with a full battened, square top mainsail with 3 reefs and a 115% genoa.  There is provision for a self-tacking jib if an inner forestay and sheet track was to be added.  This would be a nice addition for shorthanded sailing.  There is a Lewar 45 electric winch for halyards and  Lewmar 50 for genoa sheets.  In addition there are 45s for gennaker sheets on each quarter.

The main anchor is a stainless steel 55lb Delta with 200' of chain.  The secondary anchor is a large Fortress anchor with 20' of chain and a

2014 Aeroyacht Alpha 42

We are very excited that the Alpha 42 catamaran offered is making a full circle back to our Aeroyacht offices in NY. She is offered for sale and located at her owners dock, close to Long Island NY. Serious offers are considered.

Back in 2012 our office was commissioned to design the worlds coolest 42 cruising catamaran. A boat that looked good, was well thought out and safe to sail around the world by an owner couple. 5 Alpha 42s were built in a very limited production of which Lucie 2 is the second boat manufactured by Alpha One Composites of Long Island, NY.

Lucie 2 is owned by an experienced sailor, who has owned several large catamarans and he has equipped her for coastal and offshore cruising. She is a unique 4 cabin layout. Unlike the mass produced balsa cored polyester multihulls, this Alpha 42 is built in strong Vynilester-Nydacore foam. Stiffer, lighter and no chance for osmosis ! Airconditioner, generator, inverter, a full set of navionics and many other options to make life easy onboard. Lucie 2 has the cool looking-trademark inverted bows which reduce weight and extend her waterline for swift passages. She looks great standing still as well! Her ultra large galley and 2 refrigerators and 2 freezers will delight the family chef as well.

Come visit this Alpha 42 catamaran Lucy 2. You might even get a personal tour with her designer Gregor Tarjan, founder of Aeroyacht.
