"The Irwin 52 is long on value and loaded with standard features. On deck there's a spacious walk-in cockpit, a roller furling headstay, thoughtfully-located hardware and much more. Below-deck systems have been analyzed and located for easy accessibility. The opulent main salon is airy and open, featuring two large comfortable L-shaped settees; a custom teak high-low dining table; a large liquor locker (with optional wetbar and ice maker); and a breakfast bar with an upholstered, swiveling captain's chair. The elaborate navigation station has ample chart and instrument space and another captain's chair. The galley is a gourmet's delight, with a tremendous amount of space for food preparation. Opposite the galley is a utility room with a pantry for additional food storage. The master stateroom has a full queen-sized berth, settee, and private head with a tub and shower stall. The forward guest stateroom also has a queen-sized centerline berth with a settee, and a private entrance to the day head with its tub and shower stall. The guest stateroom has upper and lower single berths. The tasteful use of richly varnished teak combined with coordinated mica colors provides a feeling of spacious elegance. A smooth 77-horsepower diesel auxiliary will push the Irwin 52 along quietly when desired. Generous water and fuel capacity means long trips are possible without frequent stopping."

1989 Irwin 52

The KITTYHAWK is certainly one of the best examples of this popular IRWIN 52 Center Cockpit to be available for quite some time. She's the latest "52-4" version (with a redesigned rudder & keel and with other improvements) of this model that that made her market debut in the '88-'89 timeframe. The IRWIN 52 was first introduced in the later 1970's and was built through the early 1990's. With a reported "over 250" IRWIN 52's produced, it's been noted that this Ted Irwin design is probably the most prolific "larger sailboat" (over 50') ever manufactured!

Configured as a cutter and having the preferred Tall Rig along with roller-furling for both the mainsail and the genoa, the KITTYHAWK is a very easy yacht to operate by a cruising couple or light crew. The easy-to-manage center cockpit design and the superb (3) stateroom layout, combined with the outstanding interior as enhanced by the large Salon portlights, made the IRWIN 52 a top seller ever since her market debut. As an included feature, her sailing performance is also quite good as many Owners and crew have discovered .. and reported .. over the years.

The KITTYHAWK has benefited from her Ownership for the past (19) years with a now-retired airline captain who knows what he's doing with their yacht and her systems. Combined with her previous "fresh water boat" usage history, the KITTYHAWK has been maintained & equipped to a high standard and a review of the complete inventory of this well-found yacht will indicate.  She's not only ready to go anywhere .. but she wants for nothing either!

As the Owner's retirement plans have changed, and after some (19) years with the KITTYHAWK, they've opted to sell her. Given the qualifications of this yacht, anyone who is seriously "in the market" for this sort of presentation should have a look. She's stored in the water at one of the Brewer Yards in Westbrook (CT) and has been Winterized. Appointments for viewings are encouraged for those clients who find the KITTYHAWK concept to be appealing and thereby ideal for their cruising plans.
