History of Tasman

A bit of history about the boat, the first owner commissioned it in 1973 and almost immediately started an around the world cruise taking them westbound from the Puget Sound. I don't have tons of info from this time as when I was contact past owners to put together a history I did find out this man had died decades ago but I do know around 1988 they had been in Malta and an illness forced them to put it in the yard for sale and return to the US. At this same time a retired attorney out of Port Townsend was in Malta with his wife doing an around the world trip on a 32 footer and decided somewhat on a whim that their boat was a bit smaller than they wanted. They sold their boat and moved over to this Spencer 44 to continue their trip. They took the boat down the coast of Africa and at some point dropped the mast to motor 150 miles up one of the Ivory Coast rivers. They then crossed the Atlantic and made landfall in Brazil, up the coast through the Panama Canal. Then all the way into Alaska and finally back to their home in Port Townsend almost 20 years after the boat left.  The current owner purchased the boat in Seattle and has cruised & lived aboard extensively in Alaska & Washington.
