Goudy & Stevens

Goudy & Stevens were shipbuilder from East Booth Bay and were one of the most respected shipbuilder in New England for more than 50 years from elegant yachts to rugged fishing vessels, tug boats, and ferries. They built wooden boats, fiberglass boats, aluminum, and steel boats.

If you look for yachts built by Goudy & Stevens, you find they started building boats in 1921. Diversion (now "Old Fashioned") was built in 1959 and is listed as number 138 and they have continued to build boats of all types and designs through 1993.

The boat obviously has a solid pedigree and was re-planked and restored over a period of time but was completely refinished and restored in 2014 when the current owner took ownership. In 2014 over 1000 man hours have been spent bringing the boat to its current level. Repowered with a Yanmar Model 6LYA - UTE engine (currently showing approximately 380 hours) she cuts a fine line on the water with  very little wake.

The wiring and plumbing were all brought up to code and the galley is quite functional with an ice box, corian countertop, and large sink on the starboard side. On port is a comfortable table and seating area. Forward is a vee berth with a clean functional head on the port side just forward of the seating area.

The lower helm station is as much an extension of the cockpit as the other way around. If you are at the lower helm, you can also be part of the crowd in the cockpit. This is the biggest advantage of the soft curtain and since everything (the cockpit and the helm station) are on the same level, everyone can enjoy the conversation.

On the upper helm, there is seating for 1 -5 people. The electronics are duplicated on the Fly Bridge, so you can navigate from both levels.

1959 GOUDY & STEVENS Flybridge

This beautifully restored wooden motor yacht was fully restored in 2014 and the exterior was re-painted and re-varnished in 2018 is really an ideal yacht for someone who can appreciate the beautiful lines and heritage of a properly built wooden boat. She was originally built as a "Pleasure Craft" by the very reputable Maine Builder Goudy and Stevens. Many of the wooden boats built in Maine in 1959 were built as lobster boats and work boats so naturally the pleasure boats of the time had the classic "lobster boat" look. Likewise, Old Fashioned (Previously named "Diversion") has similar lines, but has the very rare addition of a Fly bridge. Comfortable accommodations an open cockpit for entertaining and social interaction plus the addition of a Fly Bridge make Old Fashioned a very desirable yacht. If you are the type of person who really appreciates the fine craftsmanship of a wooden yacht, this is the right boat for you. Everything on the boat has been completely repaired, replaced or renovated so all you need to do is enjoy it and give it the normal TLC she deserves. This boat really is an eye catcher and you can be really proud to show her and talk about her heritage.
