Batteries
  • 8 Odyssey PC1800  batteries - 214 amp-hour model
  • 1 house battery
  • 1 generator battery
  • 2 batteries for the bow thruster
  • 12v charge for the house
How cruising works

You can run 4-6 hours on the batteries alone.

When the digital monitor shows the batteries beginning to run down, you simply turn on the generator manually, which will re-charge the batteries.

If you need to run at 7 1/2  knots, you would use the generator an hour on and an hour off for any trips that are expected to last more than 5 hours.

It's very stable, has high free board and a heavy keel.

This is a pleasure boat meant for a quite day on the river, not for running up and down the coast. Speed is not the objective, although you can run at hull speed for long enough to get you back to port in a storm.

1910 Consolidated Motor Yacht

Would be an excellent Lake boat!

VAGABOND, is one of six 40' launches build in 1909 built by Consolidated Shipbuilding. VAGABOND was exhibited at the NY boat show in Jan. 1910 where, to quote the Rudder magazine, she "attracted the crowd in droves."

If that wasn't enough, VAGABOND is an electric yacht will travel 40 miles on a single charge! A hybrid motor for a century-old launch. At 600 rmp, she will go all day at 4.5 knots on batteries alone. The Elco 35kw engine is equivalent to a 70 hp diesel engine.

108 years old, but now goes silently through the water. I hope we all do that well when we get that age!

This is a glass over wood hull.
