Sabatayn is a 1998 custom built steel hulled cutter built in New Zealand by Nalder & Biddle.
She was originally built for a deep sea treasure hunter and specked accordingly as a go anywhere, in any condition, boat. Sabatayn has sailed half way around the world to the shores of South America, the Caribbean’s and back to Australia. She has undergone two major refits in 2017 and recently in 2022, including a haul-out and anti-fouling completed!
All her systems have been upgraded, are up to date and new.
In addition to her long term off grid supporting systems, she boasts a Bauer dive compressor and a sizable workshop including a 2 person decompression chamber, air holding tanks and more.
The Hydraulic system has been rebuilt and upgraded not only for the powerful windlass and bow thruster, but also to support the option of running a hydraulic crane (if needed) on the forward deck. All ready with mount and connections.
The Gardner engine was rebuilt in 2021, and now has 1100 hrs.
In the last five months, all the electrical and electronic systems have been replaced and new systems added.
Sabatayn can now sail for days or stay silent at anchorages, on battery power alone, even on cloudy days.
And if treasure is what you seek, this is most likely the only boat in the world that has a genuine piece under her mast.
A Spanish silver coin from 1740 is under the mast foot to bless her and crew on her passages.

Spacious Aft deck with round teak table and seating for 6. Fixed seating around stern and besides outer helm station with cushions.
Entering the pilot house: U-shaped salon and folding dining table to std, cabinets and fridge to port. Down 3 steps forward to the helm station with Captain’s chair to std and settee with table to port. Nav table and cabinets behind helm station.
Down 4 steps aft to living quarters, U-shaped galley to port with 4 burner propane stove top and oven with a 12v range hood with LED lighting above. 2 burner ceramic electric range beside. Galley sink with separate water purifier faucet. Cabinets and storage around. Fridges to std opposite galley.
Hallway leading aft with guest double cabin to std and double bunk cabin to port. Further aft guest head w/shower to std. followed by a step up leading to the master cabin with en-suite head and shower.
Forward from the galley through watertight door is the engine room with 25kw Northern Lights generator to port followed by Bauer air compressor and Reverso fuel polishing system. Walk-around 190Hp Gardner engine with engine driven hydraulic pump. Water maker, battery banks and chargers to std.
Going forward through water tight bulkhead door is utility room with 2 person decompression chamber, dive tanks storage, workshop with sink, washer/dryer to std compressed air storage tanks and compressed air management system.
Forward is crew cabin with twin bed and bunk above.
Large opening hatch above utility room and steps leading to deck.
Forward is chain locker with 100m of 1/2” chain, numerous spare lines, secondary anchor with chain and rode.
Forward on deck is Wilson 3500 hydraulic windlass, bowsprit w/double anchor rollbars and 150lb CQR main anchor.
In the stern: stainless steel davits hold a Highfield 4.2m center console tender with 50hp Mercury outboard. All upholstery is new and new hull covers.
Folding wide ladder leads to swim platform and folds down to sea.

The house battery bank has 4 new 340Ah/each (1360Ah total) Lithium batteries,and 2x154Ah AGM cranking batteries. When off-grid, charging is achieved by 6x190w solar panels divided into 2 arrays to maximize charging. These are regulated by the new Victron solar smart charger.
The house bank can provide for 4-5 days of energy with just a few hours of sunlight a day. Much more on sunny days.
Otherwise, the engine charges the battery bank via 3 Victron dc to dc smart chargers or when running the generator or shore power via the new Victron Quattro 200/5000 charger/inverter.
The batteries and usage are monitored by the Victron smart shunt and all the Victron instruments are Bluetooth enabled so can be easily read/programmed using a phone and the Victron app.

Sails are all from Southern Sails in as new condition.
All sails have been re-stitched (where needed) with UV resistant thread by Doyle sails.
Both head sails’ UV strip has been re-stitched and clews reinforced for heavy weather sailing.
The main sail is a boom furling sail. It has has a new luff, batten pockets reinforced, and an added UV protection strip put on to protect the sail while furled.
All halyards, topping lift and boom vang are new. Main Halyard, topping lift and spinnaker halyard are dyneema. The two head sail halyards are spectra.

Captain's Notes
Sabatayn is a long keel boat, so her up-wind sailing characteristics are not great. She does motor-sail upwind quite well though. She sails great at any angle above 70* apparent. On a beam reach expect slightly above half the wind speed while on a broad reach expect more than that. We did 7-8kts on a beam reach while going over 9 on a broad reach with the same 15-17kts wind. We tend to keep her level so don’t push for speed rather than comfort.
Her Gardner is a low RPM fresh water cooled via raw water heat exchanger engine. Expect 6-8 kts @ 700-800 rpm at a calm to moderate sea. At full throttle she'll do 11kts @ 1200 rpm. At 800rpm her fuel consumption is 5L/hour. She has 3 tanks totaling 3000L.
She is very stable under sail especially when heading with the wind on the beam and aft. Heading into heavy seas under power she tends to bounce. We have just sailed her in 20-25kts winds and 1.5-2m waves. Feeling was good (even among the inexperienced crew). Hardly any roll with the waves on the beam and very calm with the waves from behind under sail.
