Mahogany Gentleman's Runabout.New Boat,Hand built in classic style. This Beautifully crafted boat can be viewed at the Miami Boat Show,Don't miss it.Trailer included.THE CRAFTSMAN OF THE SEAS.Juan Jose Raponi s handcrafted wooden power boats are on worldwide demand. Raponi makes the most sought-after tailor-made wooden power boats. In his eighties, he is the last of his kind: an artist who builds unique wooden classical power boats which cost at least 450,000 dollars. Although fiber glass power boats appeared, Juan Jos Raponi, a famous and prestigious constructor of wooden power boats, chose to keep on doing what he really knew about. Due to his technical expertise, he became a landmark among lovers of power boats built as they used to be . The new classical power boats are made of fiber with a wooden coating, whereas in Raponi s power boats wood is soul and body. Going through the selection of wood for each new project it is a ritual during which Raponi shows off his well-known taste and knowledge. Raponi handcrafts African mahogany and cedar, following his own designs. For yachting lovers, Raponi is like a myth who can be appreciated only by visiting his warehouse located in the district of Tigre. Although the level of his handcrafted work is measured by the perfection of lines in each one of his boats, mere numbers might serve as evidence: while a fiber glass power boat costs around 50,000 dollars in the Argentine market, Raponi s power boats are sold five times as expensive, i.e. around 450,000 dollars. That is so if purchased in Argentina, whereas the price of the same boat in any other harbor in the world rises substantially. I don t think of myself as the best. I just work with great effort. I like it when people appreciate my work and I am proud when I compare my boats with that of others. It is then that I realize how worth the effort is , says Raponi. During its assembly line production stage, Raponi Shipyard built nearly 200 power boats and cruisers, such as Comanche and Cherokee. Raponi s sport vessels won hundreds of awards in competitions. In such business, time and experience are the best feedback. And Raponi spent 65 years designing boats, cutting wood to perfection, varnishing exteriors and finally getting boats in the water. Due to financial problems in my family, I had to start working at the age of 15. I got my first job at Parodi Shipyard where at the beginning I swept the floors and helped with the errands until I finally got to work on vessels construction , Raponi commented. And it didn t take long for Raponi to learn the basis of such business. He opened his own warehouse at the age of 20. Today, Raponi s power boats run in American as well as European waters, while a list of more than ten businessmen and famous people are waiting for their Raponi boat to be ready. They all know they must be patient
