The bridge deck area is comfortable and well laid out. Access to the bridge is via molded in fiberglass steps in the cockpit. The aft end of the area is open and features the very popular summer kitchen option with sink and ice maker. There is also a mounted 24" round table and a folding radar mast which color matches the gel coat. Moving forward into the covered area of the bridge, there is an L-shaped settee on port and straight settee on starboard with a folding table between. At the forward end of the area, the helm is on centerline with a pedestal seat and additional forward facing seats on either side.

The Mainship 400 Trawler was introduced in 2003 as the successor to the very popular 390 Trawler. Mainship listened closely to the comments the owners of 390's had given them over the years. In the design of the 400, Mainship knew they needed to keep features like the wide decks, large flybridge, roomy cockpit and "no wood" exterior. But they also knew that they needed a larger salon allowing for more galley space and a dinette, which the 390 did not offer. Mechanical access was improved with a larger engine room and much better access to the lazarette, where the generator is located. The hallmark feature of the 400 has to be the summer kitchen at the aft end of the flybridge.

Mainship uses tried and true construction techniques. The boats are made with E-glass fiberglass woven roving and polyester resin. The hull is laid up with a solid fiberglass bottom and the hull sides are cored with balsa above the waterline. The superstructure is solid glass with balsa cored decks. The stringer system is made of marine grade plywood and is completely encapsulated in fiberglass.

The salon is entered from the cockpit through a wonderful heavy polished aluminum door. The salon has an open and airy feel. There are 10 large windows (many with opening panels and screens)plus the aft glass door allowing for plenty of natural light and fantastic views. Cherry wood is used throughout the boat giving her a warm and rich feeling. In the salon, there is a custom cherry and hole sole with a durable polyurethane finish. The salon layout has the galley aft to starboard while across on port is the custom made sofa. Forward of the sofa is the built-in dinette while the lower helm is opposite on starboard. The aft doors have drapes for privacy and feature a roll away screen door so you can open up the boat when the weather is right.

The master stateroom is in the bow and features a centerline queen berth, two hanging & storage lockers and private access to the head. The berth has two drawers underneath and has a hinged top for additional access to two cherry wood storage bends. The starboard hanging locker is cedar lined and lighted. The port storage locker has a small hanging locker aft and shelves forward. Aft on starboard is a door to the head for private access.

One of the great features of the 400's cockpit is the fiberglass top which is the aft end of the bridge deck above. The top provides sun and rain protection and gives the cockpit the feeling of back porch. Other features include a transom storage locker with washdown, a transom door for easy access to the swim platform, molded in stairs to the bridge, a large lazarette access hatch and easy access to the bow via wide side decks with high bulwarks. What is not as noticeable is that there is a second custom molded-in generator access hatch just outside the salon doors which allows direct access to the top of the generator. No other 400 Mainship has this feature!

Simrad electronics were chosen for "Carousel" because of their superior performance and quality. In order to install the electronics package, a number of factory modifications had to be made to the boat. The most visible change was the custom lower helm, which allows all the electronics to be flush mounted. In addition, the radar mast was over-sized, extended and reconfigured in order the hold the 4kw open radar antenna and the sending unit for the wind speed and direction indicator. The electronics installation is to a very high standard with only the finest components used.

Engine room access is via hinged hatches in the salon sole. The engine room layout has the aluminum fuel tanks outboard of the engines. There is generous space between and around the engines for ease of maintenance. Filters, Batteries, Shaft Seals, transducers ect. are easy to reach and service. Four 12v light fixtures illuminate the area well.
