Launched in October 2004, this ice-strength, alloy metal, long range, prototype ship is dedicated to Arctic observation. The three main key strengths are its ability to be fully maneuverable in very shallow remote waters, its autonomy and its low running cost. It was designed to be as energy efficient as possible, relying for its heat and power on a high efficiency diesel-powered Whispergen co-generation system supplemented by renewable electricity produced by a bank of eight 175 watt Shell solar cells and a 1 kW FuturEnergy wind turbine.Built for wintering autonomously, she has been designed as a simple and efficient year-long observation platform capable of resisting Arctic ice pressure if necessary. Eight people can be totally autonomous in winter conditions for one year. Conceived and run by passionate owners, the vessel's main goal is to be an environmentally friendly educational tool about the most remote places on our planet, and can serve as a base camp for scientists, photographers, engineers and observers.VAT may apply for European buyers, please inquire.
