2003 Skater 40', One Of A Kind This past year, we shipped the boat to Dean Loucke at The Art of Design—TAOD . Dean masterfully applied a $50,000 paint job to the boat while the trailer was also getting repainted. Paul Pfaff was also busy completely rebuilding the supercharged 572 inch Chevrolets in front of fresh BAM transmissions and Mercury Racings #6 drives. When the boat returned from the paint booth 3 months ago, we completely rerigged the entire boat. Every wire, hose,belt, nut and bolt was replaced with new. The new Autometer Comp Lite series of gauges seems to fit for this boat along with a pair of GPS speedos with re calls, one up front and one for the passengers in the rear. Gordon Jennings at Paul Pfaffs can be more specific but here’s a short list of the mechanicals: Supercharged 572 inch Chevrolets with BDS 14-71’s and Lee Innercoolers, Holley Carbs, Aeromotive fuel pumps, CMI Big Tube SS polished headers and polished tailpipes with Gaitlin Mufflers built in to the tailpipes. These engines run on 91 octane and have dry sump oiling Systems along with a very elaborate set of oil, trans and steering coolers. Both engines run a power steering pump for convenience when idling. The six drives have polished lower units With 5 blade Herring props. The engines are called 1100’s but according to Paul Pfaff they routinely dyno for 1150 to 1170 hp. The fastest pass made by this boat on GPS was 156 Mph while it was being driven by Billy Dunsmore. Although the boat does have big K planes, they are rarely used much in “Havasu” types of water. The cockpit seats 5 comfortably with super comfortable wrap-in seats, lots of storage on the outsides of the cockpit in the gunnels. Complete Clarion soun d system along with a 4 headed Intercom system that is voice actuated, a shiptoshore radio, dash mounted mechanical trim and plate indicators, All Auto meter gauges,red dash mounted emergency warning lights, Halon fireboy system, twin side opening engine hatch hinges with painted to match pro stock style scoops. Removable carpet kit, triple axle trailer with fresh paint with less than 10,000 total miles on it! The best thing about this boat is while it is very fast, it’s very very docile. The boat goes forward rather than up to get up on plane, it won’t raise 5 to 6 inches vertically while getting on plane. It turns predictably, idles smoothly , tracks beautifully and has just a hint of a mild porpoise from 50 to 65 mph in glass smooth water. Take it out on Saturday afternoon and be centger stage! We’ve recently spent over $150,000 on this boat to restore it to “better than new” condition.and remember there was nothing wrong with it to begin with!
