SALE PENDING - This Slocum 43' Sailing Yacht that is for sale was bought new in 1982 while laying in Clear Lake Houston, Texas. I first saw this Stan Huntingford Design at the Annapolis boat show and was overwhelmed by its spacious stand up room below. It is a very safe, well conceived blue water cruising yacht. In 1989 I was crossing the Atlantic on my way to Spain and was caught in a force 11 about 500 hundred miles east of New York. I had all the sails up with the wind at 55knts and no gunwales in the water. We did get the foresail and main down but, left the staysail up and she acted as a storm sail. The heavy weather lasted 14 hrs, but found no damage in the morning. The whole trip there and back caused no damage to the boat even though more than our share of force 5 or 6s. This is a well designed boat that surpasses the highest standards in construction and design.
Below the yacht is richly appointed in teak joiner work with new cushions, upholstery, curtains and counter tops. This yacht Cutter Cruiser is ready to cruise anywhere you would like to go from Long Island Sound to sunny Spain or the Panama Canal and West.
This Yacht is lying in Buffalo, NY. She has spent 80% of her time on the great lakes and taken out of the water every fall for winter lay up.
The Slocum 43 is a double ended cutter rigged sailing yacht. The Keel is 3/4, weighing 9000 pounds. The total weight of the boat is 28,000 lbs, fully loaded is about 32,000 lbs. The Hull was painted in October 2008. The main deck was replaced with fiberglass in October 2008, The deck on the coach roof was replaced in 2001. The head and main sails were bought new in 2002 and are still stiff. The staysail was bought new in 2004 and was never used. This boat has a 1989 Cruising Spinnaker with approximately 20 hrs on it. All sail covers, dodger, Bimini and splash guards are new. For and Back stay as well as Shrouds which were replaced in 2006. All new masts and deck lights, 2006. New spreaders and hatch covers-2006.
