The Calkins Bartender first came about in the mid to late fifties when self-taught boat designer and builder George Calkins, decided to combine the seaworthiness of a double-ended dory with the speed of the typical V-bottomed, planing hull. The Calkins Bartender became world famous for the ability to rip through the surf and perform well in a following sea. The design has been used as rescue craft by the US Coast Guard and other agencies around the world, as well as a fishing boat, and a day cruiser. The idea was so original that Calkins was issued a patent. The Mari Maija is a production boat built with molded fiberglass construction. She is powered by a single diesel engine, has an enclosed cabin, both inside and outside control stations, V-berth sleeping accommodations, electric head, alcohol cooktop and stainless steel galley sink. On deck there are two hydraulic down rigger/pot pullers, fish well, rod holders, and welded aluminum rails. Please click on "Full Specs" for more detailed information and pictures and then call the listing broker to make an appointment to go aboard.
