Boating Magazine Names Yamaha AR230 High Output as 2007 Boat of the Year
Boating Magazine recently announced the Yamaha AR230 High Output as Boating magazine's Boat of the Year.

This recognition of the AR230 High Output represents the first time a jet driven boat has been awarded this honor. According to Boating magazine "...the jet-powered runabout has matured into a well-mannered craft. In fact, with this boat, the time has come to drop the qualifier. It's a runabout. One that not only holds its own among the reigning stern drives but, in many ways, betters them...It's a design that can't be duplicated on a stern drive-powered boat."

Jekyll Island (GA)

The newly formed "Jekyll Island Club" purchased Jekyll Island in 1886. Considered to be the most exclusive social club in the United States, the Jekyll Island Club had a limit of 100 members, among them the Astors, Vanderbilts, Pulitzers, Morgans and McCormicks and was laid out by prominent landscape architect H.W.S. Cleveland. A club house was built on the island and members constructed private "cottages"-- enormous residences designed to house entire families with staff. The club was open for the post-Christmas season when many families came down from Newport and New York to relax and enjoy the "country life." In 1942 the U.S. government ordered the area evacuated. The state of Georgia purchased the island from the club in 1947 and turned it into a state park.

Boating Tips: What Does 'Pounds of Buoyancy' Mean?

A buoyant apparatus is anything that can float and hold up weight. For instance, if you had a Type I PFD that is required to have 22 pounds of buoyancy, it would be capable of supporting 22 pounds of dense material such as lead, iron, gold, granite, etc. It would not let the material sink to the bottom. If we tied a 20 pound anchor to this PFD, what do you suppose would happen? If you guessed that it would hold the anchor off the bottom you would be correct.
